Recently I read a book named THE ILIAD It was written by the great blind history poet Homer The story is about a great war in the ancient time in Troy
The cause of the war is a beautiful lady name by Helen who was the daughter of the King of Sparta Helen was so beautiful that princes all over the Greece wanted to marry her At last Helen married Menelaus brother of King of Greece which was her own choice Then after her father’s death Menelaus became the King of Sparta However their happy life did not last that long and it ended when the prince of Troy Paris came Paris fell in love with Helen at his first sight And he tried to persuade her to go with him And she did so abandoning her husband and her daughter with a lot of wealth
When her husband knew about this he got very mad and turned to his brother Agamemnon for help And Agamemnon summoned up lots of heroes to fight against Troy to get Helen back And the war lasts nine years without breaking into the troy
And the story the book tells us begins form the tenth year The King of Greece Agamemnon had an argument with hero Achilles so that Achilles refused to fight for him And as a result Troy was always winning under Hector’s leading But that was not the reason made Achilles return battle to fight again Since Achilles back to fight the Greece army began to win the Troy Later Achilles killed Hector another prince of Troy Paris’s brother While then Achilles was killed either Finally the Greeks made a plan that some of the brave soldiers hid themselves in a great horse of wood and the rest pretended to give up the war and leave by ship but actually went no farther than to an island nearby And when the Trojans had dragged the horse into the city thinking it was an offering to the gods of the city the soldiers let themselves out of it by night and the other Greeks having come back took the city in the tenth year from the beginning of the siege
In the book a lot of gods appeared and most of them would like to help the Greeks And it almost is a war caused by the gods I think In my opinion the gods should keep our life more peaceful rather than help one side against another And I think the war of Troy is a mistake made by the King of Troy He spent all his life to keep the peace long living But just because of his son’s love he lost his country It is a famous story and very interesting one
