Sadly McGee has made Sweet Potato Comfort Pies as she calls them all too often in recent years She baked her first pack in 2014 after news of unrest broke out in Ferguson Missouri following the police killing of Michael Brown McGee drove more than 500 miles to Ferguson to personally deliver the 30 pies she had made in the same year The next year she shipped more to Charleston South Carolina where nine worshippers had been shot dead at the Mother Emanuel AME Church After two years McGee's pies comforted those in and around Minneapolis after police officers fatally shot Jamar Clark and Philando Castile Looking at those who are in suffering I am in sorrow I'm looking forward to comforting them As people carry these pies they're able to have dialogues able to listen to each other McGee says If we don't start listening more I don't know how we'll ever be able to move forward The pies are simply what can promote that

    C
At the age of twelve years the human body is at its most vigorous It has yet to reach its full size and strength and its owner his or her full intelligence but at this age the likelihood of death is least Earlier we were infants and young children and consequently more vulnerable (易受伤害) later we shall undergo a progressive loss of our vigor and resistance which though unnoticeable at first will finally become so steep that we can live no longer however well we look after ourselves and however well society and our doctors look after us
This decline in vigor with the passing of time is called ageing It is one of the most unpleasant discoveries which we all make that we must decline in this way that if we escape wars accidents and disease we shall eventually die of old age and that this happens at a rate which differs little from person to person so that there are heavy odds in favor of our dying between the ages of sixtyfive and eighty Some of us will die sooner a few will live longer—on into a ninth or tenth decade But the chances are against it and there is a virtual limit on how long we can hope to remain alive however lucky and robust we are
Normal people tend to forget this process unless and until they are reminded of it We are so familiar with the fact that ma ages that people have for years assumed that the process of losing vigor with time of becoming more likely to die the older we get was something selfevident like the cooling of a hot kettle or the wearingout of a pair of shoes They have also assumed that all animals and probably other organisms such as trees or even the universe itself must in the nature of things wear out
Most animals we commonly observe do in fact age as we do if given the chance to live long enough and mechanical systems like a wound watch or the sun do in fact run out of energy in accordance with the second law of thermodynamics (whether the whole universe does so is a moot point at present) But these are not analogous (类似)to what happens when man ages A rundown watch is still a watch and can be rewound An old watch by contrast becomes so worn and unreliable that it eventually is not worth mending But a watch could never repair itself —it does not consist of living parts only of metal which wears away by friction We could at one time repair ourselves—well enough at least to overcome all but the most instantly fatal illnesses and accidents Between twelve and eighty years we gradually lose this power an illness which at twelve would knock us over at eighty can knock us out and into our grave If we could stay as vigorous as we are at twelve it would take about 700 years for half of us to die and another 700 for the survivors to be reduced by half again
28.Which of the following statements is INCORRECT
A.Our first twelve years represent the peak of human development
B.People usually are unhappy when reminded of ageing
C.Normally only a few of us can live to the eighties and nineties
D.People are usually less likely to die at twelve years old
29.The word it in the last sentence of Paragraph Two refers to
    A.remaining alive until 65 B.remaining alive after 80
    C.dying before 65 or after 80 D.dying between 65 and 80
    30.What is ageing
A.It is usually a phenomenon of dying at an old age
B.It is a fact that people cannot live any longer
C.It is a gradual loss of vigor and resistance
D.It is a phase when people are easily attacked by illness
31.What do the examples of watch show
A.Normally people are quite familiar with the ageing process
B.All animals and other organisms undergo the ageing process
C.The law of thermodynamics functions in the ageing process
D.Human’s ageing process is different from that of mechanisms

Last week Education Secretary Arne Duncan declared a war on paper textbooks Over the next few years he said in a speech at the National Press Club textbooks should be abandoned In their place would come a variety of digitallearning technologies like ereaders and multimedia websites
Such technologies certainly have their place But Secretary Duncan is threatening to light a fire to a triedandtrue technology that has been the foundation for one of the great educational systems on the planet And while ereaders and multimedia may seem appealing the idea of replacing an effective learning platform with a widely hyped (炒作) but still unproven one is extremely dangerous
An expert on reading Maryanne Wolf has recently begun studying the effects of digital reading on learning and s0 far the results are mixed She worries that Internet reading in particular could be such a source of distractions for the student that they may cancel out most other potential benefits of a weblinked eleaning environment and while it's true that the hightech industry has sponsored considerable amounts of research on the potential benefits of Webbased learning not enough time has passed for longitudinal () studies to demonstrate the full effects
In addition digitalreading advocates claim that lightweight ebooks benefit students' backs and save schools money But the rolling backpack seems to have solved the weight problem and the astonishing costs to equip every student with an e reader provide technical support and pay for regular software updates promise to make the etextbook a very pricey choice
As both a teacher who uses paper textbooks and a student of urban history I can't help but wonder what parallels exist between my own field and this sudden wholesale abandonment of the technology of paper
32.What does the underlined part a triedandtrue technology in Paragraph 2 refer to
    A.Foundation B.Paper C.Ebooks D.Platform
33.What is the drawback of textbooks according to the passage
    A.Its price B.Its efficiency C.Its content D.Its weight
34.What worries Maryanne Wolf is that__________
A.Ereaders and multimedia websites are learning methods that are proved effective
B.the results of digital reading effects are understandable
C.digital reading can't provide potential benefits for users
D.students may not focus on leaning by digital reading
35.What is the author's attitude towards digitallearning
    A.Objective B.Supportive C.Positive D.Disapproving

    根短文容短文选项中选出填入空白处佳选项选项中两项余选项
How to stay focused in class
Being relaxed during class is a bad habit and it is also bad to your grade. Focusing in class not only proves to teachers that you are a capable student but also shows that you have the ability to control yourself which will be very important.
    36. No matter how much you want to sit with your friends during the class try your best to avoid them. Talking with friends around you is not going to give you the focus in class. This will get you into trouble.
Look at teacher and make eye contact. Your teacher is not just standing up there talking.37. Show the teacher that he or she has your full attention by looking them in the eye. This person should have your full attention at all times during class.
Take notes. By taking notes you'll be able to get into the lesson. Write down key points as your teacher speaks. And listen to the key phrases such as This is important This is the main idea This will be the test etc.38.
Get involved in class discussions. This is a wonderful way to become a more focused successful student. When a teacher asks a question offer to answer it.39.This shows the teacher that you are listening carefully during the class.
Ask a question.40.This really shows your teacher that you want to be better and can recognize the things you are having difficulty with. Chances are that someone else in the class has the same question (and was too afraid to ask). They'll be relieved and so will you.
    A.Avoid sitting with friends.
B.This can help you listen more attentively.
C.If he or she ask for an opinion share your own.
D.Talking with friends makes you lose interest in class.
EHe or she is trying to give you an acceptable education.
FThe more quickly you answer the more attention you pay.
GIf you don't understand something never be afraid to ask.

A dawning sun shaped the massive form of the train Loaded with fuel water and sand for power the lead train weighed in at 410000 pounds Conductor Robert 49 ran his eye along the 96 cars behind him
It was 7 am Robert had already checked the list of dangerous materials aboard the train ''We've got some gas with us'' he'd reported to his engineer Lindley in the cab (驾驶室) The presence of gas would mean taking extra care when braking the 6200ton train With explosive gas on board an accident would be more dangerous After a final external inspection Robert jumped aboard Slowly the train pulled out of the station
Robert and Lindley had 50 years of railroading experience between them They approached Lafayette at about 145 p m and slowed the train to the speed limit Lindley turned on his flashing lights and warning bell The two had been through the city hundreds of times but they grew extra cautious rounding the first curve (弯道) Ahead over just three miles of track lay no fewer than 24 street crossings As the train came out of the curve Lindley noticed a small dot on the right rail about 150 yards ahead He thought it might be a dog Now as the train approached within 100 yards of the object on the rail Robert looked attentively Then shock coursed through him
''My God'' he yelled as a tiny face turned toward him ''It's a baby''
Lindley had an instant decision to make applying full emergency brakes with half the train still wrapped around a curve He had to risk an emergency stop Robert opened the left door of the engine cab quickly and stepped out onto a narrow walkway He hurried to the front of the engine and crossed to the right side He then stepped down to the lower portion of the walkway just to the back of the train's ''cow catcher''
